9 Dead in Crash Involving Tanker Truck, Van Shut down Part

Nine people died Friday after a collision between a semi truck and a van blocked a section of Highway 95 in western-central Wisconsin.

According to the Clark County sheriff’s office, the crash occurred on the highway at County Road J in Dewhurst Township, about 50 miles northeast of Eau Claire, at approximately 7:53 in the morning.

The sheriff’s office says the van was traveling north on county road when it came to an intersection with Highway 95. The semi, which was traveling east on the highway, crashed into the van.

In a post on Twitter, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers shared his condolences for the victims of the crash, expressing his gratitude to first responders and confirming that nine people were killed.

Nine people were killed in the crash, according to authorities. Rochester County Coroner, Clarissa Rochester, said the semi driver died at the scene.

There were nine passengers in the van. Eight of them were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the van is listed in critical condition. One of the passengers survived the crash and is being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

On Friday, that section of Highway 95 was shut down for several hours, and drivers were advised to stay clear of the area. The accident has since been cleared, and the highway has reopened. The names of those involved in the crash have not been released.

The Clark County sheriff’s office is being assisted in the investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
